This morning we awoke to the sound of rain again and the clouds where hanging very low. We asked around and learned that the forecast was for rain all morning and starting to clear in the afternoon. Our plans to hike up along the Punakaiki River were dropped. It would be unpleasant to walk in the rain and not get any views.
On top of that Wes woke up feeling like he was getting a cold and we both had headaches. I think the cold and damp is getting to us. We decided to leave this area and head down the road to Greymouth which is the next largest town and spend the day and night there. We have no particular plans for doing anything there but we both want to take it as an easy day and be sure we are ready to carry on with out plans for Arthur Pass hopefully tomorrow but since it is an hour and half drive from Greymouth we felt this was a good plan.
The views along highway of the ocean are really something and we stopped to take a few pictures as we travelled the short distance to Greymouth. (only 51 km)
When we got to town we settled into the campground and started a laundry before taking a rest. I finally had internet service back (cell service here again) and so I was able to Skype and talk to Lewis and Sharon and Rick and Cleve. We had a really relaxing time and recharged our batteries as we watched the sun come out.
Right beside the park is the ocean and so we finished the day by walking along the beach and taking pictures of the sunset.
Wes is feeling better and tomorrow’s weather is suppose to be sunny, so the plan now is to head over to Arthur Pass tomorrow and climb up the Avalanche trail the day after since it is several hours trek. Hopefully we will be blessed with several days of sunny weather so we can get some of these treks done.
