11 Dec 2010 – Cairns

Today is a very laid back day for us.  We headed downtown to check out the Esplanade and the lagoon.  The lagoon is a swim area the has been created on the beach by the ocean.  It has sand around the shallow end so for those who wish to sun bath they can pretend they are on the beach.  However, beyond the ‘beach’ is grassy areas with lots of shade trees.
We found parking very easy which surprised us until we realized it was metered – but on Saturday only metered until 10:30.  We arrived at 10 so had to pay only $1.00 for parking right be the lagoon for the entire day.
We went and played in the water at the Lagoon for about an hour which was enough for us.  After we changed we decided to explore the Esplanade and shops around that area of town.  It was very relaxing as long as we walked slowly and stopped at the stores often to cool off.
There is nothing exciting to discuss about today since after we window shopped for a couple of hours and went out for lunch we headed back to the cabin arriving by 3 pm (early for us) for a relaxing afternoon of reading.
There is last thing for us to do in Cairns that was on our list and it will involve driving to the Tablelands.  We will do that tomorrow and try to find something exciting to do on Monday.  Any suggestions, please let us know.
